I honestly didn't know what to expect. I knew riding on JenningsGP was a great way to improve your skills after seeing what it had done for my husband back in March (Plus what others have said about their experiences).
My turn came up this past weekend. I was surprised that I wasn't scared at all the day before or the 1st day. This weekend was hosted by a local shop. We were surrounded by great friends who were very supportive and gave plenty of advice.
I felt I was a bit of a slow learner, but by the end of the day Saturday, I had figured out the lines and throttle control techniques. I even had a "hiccup" Sat morning as I was following around a control rider (they teach you the various techniques). I felt I was coming in too hot into turn 1 and instead of looking and leaning to the left, I panicked, looked up and went into the grass! My bike violently shook, which I managed to straighten up by not hitting the front brake (a natural instinct), but after that I gingerly touched my rear brake, and the rear slipped to the left. I let off and it straightened out. Whew! I got the bike to slow down enough, turn it around and got back on the track.
Sunday, I was scared to death. I took a brake from the first actual session of the morning, relaxed and got back out there. Donny (control rider and professional racer) helped me out TREMENDOUSLY! All my confidence came back. Oh, and he even set up a 2-up just me and him for 4 laps Sat evening after all the sessions (which JenningsGP does not allow, but after him pressing the issue, they gave in). I felt so honored and that really opened my eyes to what they teach you.
If you have never ridden on a track, GO! Don't hesitate or even think about the money aspect. You will learn so much in that short amount of time. As one expert told me, "You will learn more in a weekend at the track than you will in 10 years of riding." I even found I am much more confident out on the streets. I just now have to hold back. ;)
