Chain Cleaning Tip

From our own Acalliste:
You can get this cool three sided brush that makes cleaning the chain so much easier.:

For any ladies who haven't tried to clean their chain before, here's my method::

Get that three-sided brush mentioned above, a can of WD-40, some shop rags, chain lube, your rear stand and a big piece of cardboard.:

Lay the cardboard under the bike where the chain is. Put the bike on a rear stand. Then spray a section of chain with the WD-40, and scrub with the three-sided brush till it's relatively clean or at least gunk-free, then move on to another section. Repeat until you get all way around.:

Once you get all the way around, spray more WD-40 on a shop rag, and rotate the rear wheel with one hand (NOT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE BIKE IN GEAR! That's a good way to cut your fingers off) and with the other hand, wipe the chain with the shop rag as it runs through it. Keep doing this until the chain is clean, possibly switching to a new clean rag with no WD-40 to remove any excess.:

I also try to clean up the rear sprocket as much as possible. :

Clean up is a snap, just pull out the cardboard that caught all the dirty chemicals & gunk that ran down on it, and throw it away. :

Ride the bike around the block for a few minutes to heat up the chain before relubing it with your favorite chain lube.:

Would not recommend the WD40 for cleaning chains. I've heard from various sources over & over the same thing, that it damages the O-rings with time. But I do LOVE my 3sided brush for cleaning!

This is a good way to do it . I use "Chain Wax"  on my chain. I ride all the time and find that it last alot longer so I don't have to keep reapling it all the time. I do have to clean it with deluted "Simple Green"  when I have to wash it. The three-sided brush for your chain  is awsome !!!
