Adventuress Skin Care Review
When I came across the website for Adventuress I was intrigued. A line of skin care made just for women who ride motorcycles? What a great concept, but what makes it so different from any of the other products I have sitting on my counter right now?
Michele Carter, founder and CEO of Adventuress claims "This line is born of my own experience and the needs of the many women with whom I ride and share a love of an active outdoor life," Carter notes. "We started from scratch to create precisely the products that would meet all the needs we identified, including being easy to take along and use while on the road."
I was planning a week of riding through the mountains, so I figured this would be the perfect time to test out the claims of Adventuress. The day before the trip I received the Intro Offer Collection at my door step.
When I opened my shipment and saw the travel case that carries the Intro Collection, I was immediately impressed by its simple strength and beauty. The case had the look of brushed aluminum, but it was lightweight and soft to the touch. When I unzipped the case five products were revealed, each safely tucked into sturdy mesh pockets. This is definitely a travel case that will get used, it is the right size and shape to throw in a backpack or motorcycle luggage, for a weekend jaunt or a three week journey.
The five products included in the Intro Kit are Cleanser, Purifier, Moisturizer, Sunscreen and five individually wrapped Facial Wipes. They all come in air tight dispensers, to stay fresh while traveling. I have used the products for two weeks, even after returning from my trip. This is my first time reviewing a skin care line, and its actually much tougher than reviewing, for example, motorcycle pants. Skin care is such a personal thing, what works for me may not work for others, but I'll do my best to describe my experience with these products.
Naturally Liberating Cleanser
Scent: Earthy smell, I would describe it as light pine mint. All the products contain natural ingredients and are fragrance free, but I'm not familiar enough with the ingredients, to know which one is creating this scent. It smells good, it is just different from anything I would normally put on my face, took a few times to get used to it.
Texture/Appearance: Thin white cream. I realized after a couple uses, it needs to be shaken because the ingredients seems to settle.
Use: Product applies smoothly and feels good on my skin. Rinses cleanly, more so than other products I've used. My face feels clean after use.
Vividly Restorative Skin Purifier
Scent: Very mild clean scent.
Texture/Appearance: Clear serum. Comes out of the pump faster than the cleanser.
Use: I used this between cleansing and moisturizing. Something I think should be added to the packaging is recommendations for use, I wasn't really sure on this one. The Purifier was easy to apply and dried instantly. I will be ordering more of this, it claims to reduce breakouts and restore skin's radiance. I saw these benefits in the short time I used the product.
Boldly Nourishing Moisturizer
Scent: Clean scent.
Texture/Appearance: Light white cream. Goes on smoothly and dries quickly. I can apply makeup right after application with no problem.
Use: I really like this moisturizer, it doesn't feel heavy and it kept my skin feeling soft all day.
High Performance Sunscreen
Living in Florida, I thought this would be one of my favorites of the five products, but actually I haven't found a lot of opportunity to use it. I suppose I should be using it everyday, but when I'm on the bike with full gear and a full-face tinted helmet, I don't think about sunscreen. If you ride with exposed skin, I would highly recommend sunscreen (or more gear ;) ), but I can't do an honest review on this one right now.
Fearlessly Refreshing Facial Wipes
My favorite!! These wipes are fantastic, I used them several times on my trip. When I'm going out for a day of pure riding, I usually don't wear makeup, so taking one of these out and being able to freshen up after a few hours of riding in the crazy summer heat made my skin feel great and ready to tackle the rest of the ride. There is just enough moisture for your face and neck, and they smell great.
I am really pleased with The Adventuress line. My only request would be to add a little more instructions for use. The product packaging is very well done, and the products themselves seem to work as promised. I have sensitive skin, but it felt and looked great after just a week. I would purchase these products for everyday use if they chose to make larger size dispensers. Whether hiking, biking or motorcycling, every woman wants to keep their skin looking and feeling great, I believe these products would be a fantastic addition to any gear bag.

If I can find the link again easily I will post it.
Comment by acalliste on August 19, 2011 at 8:57am I should say though, the best moisturizers and creams in the world will only cause more problems if you don't clean your skin before you use them. And exfoliate. IMO, the very best thing you can do to have young, fresh looking skin and prevent lines & wrinkles is to exfoliate.
I use these little facial buffing sponges to wash my face morning and night (get them from Target, haven't seen them anywhere else). The cleanser I use at night is Biore's pore unclogging scrub on one of those sponges, and in the morning I'll mix in some of Ph's cleanser but also use the sponge. And, once a month or every few weeks I use do a microdelivery peel.
Comment by acalliste on August 19, 2011 at 8:01am Aw, thanks :) For the last 6 years I've been using Philosophy products. The eye cream is Hope in a Tube, but the last restock I got Miracle Worker to try out. It's roughly twice as much, but is apparently better for aging skin.
Comment by Girlriders - Katie on August 19, 2011 at 7:44am ac - you do have great skin! what do you use around your eyes?
Comment by acalliste on August 18, 2011 at 10:41pm I used to do that too, not wash my face at night. But my skin would break out much easier, esp if I was riding. So I began removing my makeup every night and also began a skin care regime that includes cleanse, exfoliate, lifting serum, eye cream and moisturizer. Then I repeat the process in the morning before putting on my makeup.
Because I do all those steps, it can become quite cumbersome (there's that word again! lol) when traveling, so I am always looking out for travel kits of products that actually work for me.
Comment by Girlriders - Katie on August 18, 2011 at 10:35pm ac - I do wear foundation and powder, but I'm really bad about not washing my face at night, so after 24 hours, its pretty much worn off in the morning. Stand by, I'm going try it now...
I'm back, worked pretty good! I cleansed my face than tested it with an astringent wipe and didn't see any makeup on it. I don't know if its recommended, but I've found that it's gentle enough for me to use around my eyes, and it seems to get most of that makeup off as well.

Do you normally wear foundation and powder? If so, how well did the cleanser work to remove it all?
